Gear Head is a new name on a dealership that has been a powersports leader in the Ottawa area for over 27 years. We have also taken a new approach to marketing our products. We stock and attractively display a huge assortment of riding gear and motorcycle accessories for all types of riders and all brands of bikes. We just completed a major renovation that has doubled our retail space in a facility adjacent to our previous location. We are now operating from our new digs at 320 Moodie Drive in Bells Corners.
Gear Head features European, American and Asian motorcycle, ATV and scooter brands, offering something for youth, novice and off-road riders, and also big bore sport, cruiser and sport touring bikes. Our vehicles range from sophisticated factory customs and exotic dirt bikes to easy-to-ride, economical and fun transportation choices.
The business got its start in 1982 when road racer Dan Witmer decided to open a performance shop, Darotune, which catered primarily to racers and fast street bikes. Over the years the store carried the largest accessories inventory in the region, including helmets, apparel, tires and luggage. We are now featuring our own Gear Head branded line of jackets, chaps, pants, rainwear and gloves. More unique powersports product lines will be added as we continue to grow. High quality, selection, good value and personal service are key ingredients to our business success.
The business grew to take on a Honda dealership in 1990 and at various times also sold Sea-Doo and Arctic Cat products. In 2003 the Honda franchise was moved to another Ottawa location where it remains the largest Honda Powerhouse motorcycle dealership in Canada. The original store took on the Vespa, Piaggio, Peugeot, SYM and Daelim scooter brands and Victory, Hyosung, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and PitsterPro motorcycle lines. Polaris ATVs and snowmobiles are the latest addition to the new showroom. Gear Head is one of the first Canadian dealers for Zero Electric Motorcycles, E-Max and E-Moto electric scooters and UrbanMover electric bicycles. Gear Head is proud to be one of Dealernews Magazine Top 100 winners in 2009. We were honoured for having 'Best Display' of all North American motorcycle dealers and were featured on the cover of the July 2009 edition with an extensive dealer profile.
